AUSD Did Not Fully Disclose

According to the California State Controller’s Annual Financial Report of California K-12 Schools, for the Period of July 1, 2005 through June 30, 2006, the most recent fiscal year for which the report covers, the Alameda Unified School District did not provide full disclosure of impending financial problems in their audit report and interim reports for the fiscal year 2005-06.

The State Controller has broad authority to oversee state and federal funding of California’s public schools from kindergarten through the 12th grade, and this oversight responsibility includes reviewing annual local education agencies’ audit reports. The agency prepares their financial report from annual audit reports prepared for the school districts by independent certified public accountants.

For the Alameda Unified School District, the report stated that “No” AUSD’s reports did not offer “Full Disclosure in Auditor’s Opinion” and “No” AUSD’s reports did not offer “Full Disclosure in Financial Statement and Accompanying Notes” with regards to disclosures of impending financial problems.
