Affordability Increases in East Bay

Measure A critics try to blame the housing-density limiting legislation for just about everything that goes wrong in Alameda, including high housing prices. But data from the California Association of Realtors, as reported in the San Francisco Chronicle, shows that housing affordability is up.

You can see from the chart that the Alameda County housing affordability index has improved by nine percentage points, from 25% to 34% from the first quarter of 2007 to the first quarter of 2008.

Also, Alameda County is the second most affordable county, behind only Sonoma County, in the seven Bay area counties reported, and has greater affordability than the Bay area as a whole (34% v. 30%)
