Planning Board Hearing on Orchard Supply Hardware

In a notice dated June 24th, 2008, the City of Alameda Planning Board announced a public hearing on July 14, 2008, at 7:00pm at Alameda City Hall to consider the proposal to bring Orchard Supply Hardware to Alameda Towne Center. Action Alameda first announced the plans for OSH at ATC on June 18th.

The notice says that the old Safeway building will be expanded by roughly 22,600 to 49,650 square feet of additional floor space, resulting in full build-out of up to roughly 706,650 square feet of gross leaseable space, and would include a new parking structure. The average building height of the former Safeway building would increase to 30 feet, with decorative parapets as high as 35 feet and would include loading docks and an outdoor garden supply area on the North side of the building.

Grand Street residents who have contacted Action Alameda are concerned that the expansion and parking garage will bring additional truck and motor vehicle traffic to Grand Street.

Residents have until July 7th to submit written comments on the EIR if they want their comments to be part of the planning board packet on July 14th. Otherwise, they will have to go and speak at the planning board meeting on the 14th.
