SunCal and D.E. Shaw in New Mexico

In the wake of the Lehman Brothers collapse, it seems that SunCal, the master developer for Alameda Point, has had to go around the country asserting wherever they can that Lehman wasn’t an investor in local projects.

Consider this report in the New Mexico Independent, quoting a statement to the New Mexico Business Weekly by SunCal confirming that D.E. Shaw, and not Lehman Brothers, is the equity partner in a $100 million deal for the Westland Project on Albuquerque’s west side. It’s a 57,000 acre project that SunCal is planning, but hasn’t started construction on yet.

According to the Albuquerque Tribune, SunCal purchased 55,000 acres of the land for $250 million in 2006.
