Appeal on Alameda Town Center Expansion

Dear Editor,

Could you please post this flyer?

Enough is Enough!  You must take action and make your voice heard!!

Join your neighbors at the City Council Meeting on Oct 7

On August 11, 2008, the Alameda Planning Board approved the following
for Alameda Towne Centre:

o An Environmental Impact Report which ignores the true impact of increased traffic, noise and air pollution from the shopping center
o Extended Hours of Operation which allow businesses to operate from 6 a.m. to midnight.  (more traffic, noise and crime)
o 24 Hour Truck Deliveries (down our residential streets!)
o 24 Hour Maintenance which includes a parking lot sweeper, leaf blower, and power washer (What city allows leaf blowers at 3 a.m.?)

An appeal has been filed by residents and will be heard by the Alameda City Council on Oct 7, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.  It is critical that you attend this hearing to voice your concerns and get these approvals denied.

On Oct 13, 2008 at 7 p.m. the Planning Board will consider another expansion of Alameda Towne Centre to 706,000 sq. ft.  The current occupied space is approximately 430,000 sq. ft.  Residents are already being awakened in the middle of the night, sleeping with earplugs, experiencing their homes shaking and windows rattling, and unable to keep their windows open due to the noise and emissions.

This massive expansion will generate even more traffic, noise and air pollution in our neighborhoods, diminishing our quality of life and property values.
Do we really want a regional mall on our small island?

See you at Alameda City Hall on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
