The Alameda Public Affairs Forum presents: “The American Economy After the Elections: Here are some snippets from last-night’s City Council meeting… Dear Editor, The City of Alameda is not in financial trouble. This City has money. City Staff have recommended that Alameda City Council consider eliminating police department positions (one officer, one sergeant and one lieutenant) and eliminating school crossing guards to balance the budget. But they don’t make any recommendations to trim the bloated City Attorney’s office. If SunCal’s plan get’s built, Bayport will be framed by two high-volume traffic corridors. Dear Editor, We think there are better uses for Alameda Point than the SunCal plan. We have a VISION for a PUBLIC LAND TRUST, like the San Francisco Presidio. While commercial property owners in Alameda are checking with the Alameda County Tax Assessor to see how much Measure H will add to their tax bill, the AUSD District Housing Fund and District Capital Outlay Fund – money held at the City of Alameda for AUSD – are growing. Dear Editor: We would like to respond to the letter in favor of Measure P from Mr. Elnick, Business Representative of the Alameda City Employees Association, Operating Engineers Union Local #3. Mr. Elnick began his letter with the statement, “”With limited development potential and retail space…”. FACT: Alameda has a great deal of development and retail potential at Alameda Point and Alameda Landing. |
