The City of Alameda Public Utilities Board will hold its regular monthly meeting on Monday evening, November 16, at 7:00 p.m. in City Council Chambers, City Hall.
Alameda Municipal Power also made the following announcement earlier this week:
COMMUNITY OF HARBOR BAY OFFICES A BRIGHTER, MORE ENERGY-EFFICIENT PLACE
Alameda, California; November 5 – The Community of Harbor Bay is now a brighter and more energy-efficient place to be, thanks to the installation of its new advanced-technology LED parking area lighting.
According to Director of Maintenance Operations Joseph Landaeta, “The new fixtures offer better lighting at a lower cost for a longer time. And a rebate from Alameda Municipal Power help swing the decision to convert.”
The Association installed seven light-emitting-diode (LED) units as replacements for metal-halide bulbs in the parking area serving its offices. The 128-Watt LED units will use 80% less electricity than the 250-Watt metal-halide bulbs they replaced. The LED units also have a lifetime that’s about 12 times longer, about 36 years, so maintenance costs will be reduced, as well.
Alameda Municipal Power provided a $2,730 rebate to the Association for the retrofit. “All our customers benefit from energy-efficiency rebates, as we have to secure less power to serve our community,” said AMP General Manager Girish Balachandran. “We look first to energy efficiency in meeting Alameda’s electrical needs,” he continued.
The annual energy cost savings to the Community of Harbor Bay will be well over $2,000. For safety and security reasons, many parking area lights remain on through the night. The new LED units also employ a “bilevel” function and can power down by 65% when there is no motion in the lot. Lights that remain on overnight will operate at the lower level more than half the time.
Balachandran continued, “The Community of Harbor Bay has long been a leader in adopting energy-efficiency technologies. We appreciate their willingness to share their experiences with the community.
