Action Alameda News is receiving reports that Alameda voters are receiving telephone survey calls about SunCal’s Alameda Point Revitalization Initiative, which is measure “B” on the February 2, 2010 ballot, or, as the calling agent referred to it as, possibly due to mis-reading the script, measure “8″
The calling agent takes a line of questioning about “putting measure 8″ on the ballot – either the agent is confusing the “B” with the digit “8″ or perhaps the script reads “measure a” in reference to the measure in 1973 that amended Alameda’s charter to limit density, and the agent is pronouncing the “A” as “eight.” In either event, if you receive a call, please post the questions they ask in the comments below.

I received a call late this afternoon. I was asked if they could count on me to vote for Measure B. I said I had not read the language to determine if I would vote yes or no but that I would not vote to allow SunCal to develop the Point. I was told the vote was to clean up the toxic waste and the woman continued to argue with me regardless of what I said. She kept saying the Point would be developed by another developer that did not care about Alameda if SunCal’s Iniative did not pass. She directed me to look at the Alameda Point website to see the new information posted. She asked several more times if she could count on me for a “yes” vote. She asked if they could call me again in a couple of weeks and I said they could. This woman had a strong foreign accent that sounded European.
Why not just give appear to give in to their arguments after listening to them for a few hours worth of phonecalls? Be polite, let them spend hours in attempts to convince and then do the smart thing and go into that booth or absentee, pull the curtain and then VOTE NO. Otherwise SUNCAL might spend time trying to convince someone who can’t read and might vote yes. Tell a friend. Every minute they spend with intelligent and informed voters is a minute they don’t spend with someone else.
Then after telling them they can count on your vote, they will do a get out the vote on election day and call again. Wait for that and let them convince you to get off your rear and go vote.
Let Alameda’s result be a warning to get rich hedge funds, that citizens have had enough of subsidizing the wealth of irresponsible companies.
Thank you, Action Alameda for publicizing this.
We must tell our friends and neighbors about Measure B and the importance of voting NO on Measure B.
