Target Acquires Oakland Location

Updated, January 26th, 3:25pm – A Catellus spokesperson declined to comment, citing a policy of not commenting on market rumors or speculation.

The San Francisco Business Times is reporting that Target has acquired the former Home Depot Expo store location in the massive big-box store theme park on the border of Oakland and Emeryville. Catellus had been talking about bringing Target to Alameda Landing – a store that was always intended to be a “regional” store. No word yet what the acquisition of the Home Depot Expo store means for an Alameda Landing Target, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Target kills the Alameda plans in favor of the Emeryville location’s better freeway access.

Yeah that would be a great business move to take over the EXPO store. Let’s see — easy freeway access versus a clogged tube? Which shall I choose in order to mkae more money for my corporate leaders?

I am going to miss that Target sign over the entry way to the west end of Alameda. It seemed so fitting with SUNCAL and all taking aim at us.
