Alameda Firefighters Shave Heads to Raise Money for Cancer Research

Alameda Firefighters Local 689 let us know via Facebook that they are shaving their heads to support the St. Baldrick’s Foundation – “Shaving the Way to Conquer Kids’ Cancer.”

A local firefighter alerted Action Alameda News to their team webpage which reads:

You heard it right – We are shaving our heads in solidarity with children who have cancer and typically lose their hair during treatment, while raising critical funds for childhood cancer research!

In the US, more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease. Please make a donation on my behalf to support childhood cancer research so that all children diagnosed with cancer will have a better chance for a cure.

The effort climaxes at a March 12, 2010 event at Children’s Hospital and Research Center of Oakland, where participants can have their own head shaved in support of the kids, and meet the children and their families who benefit from the fund raising.
