Last year, AUSD Superintendent Kirsten Vital paid an Oakland political consulting firm $14,000 for “design and programming of AUSD website redesign.” The same firm worked on AUSD’s Measure H in 2008, and the two principals of the firm were put on AUSD’s Master Plan Advisory Group last year by Ms. Vital.

On February 18th, 2010, Alameda residents Kerry Cook and Serena Dietrich filed suit in Alameda County Superior Court, claiming that the Alameda Unified School District Board of Trustees violated the state’s open meeting laws in the course of their actions surrounding a new anti-bullying curriculum and the controversial “Lesson 9″ plan at the December 8th, 2009, AUSD Board of Trustees meeting. At tonight’s Alameda Unified School District Board Meeting, AUSD Superintendent of Schools Kirsten Vital is expected to recommend that the board place a “split-roll” parcel tax on the ballot, which would replace the taxes levied by past school measures A and H, and raise approximately $14 million per year, each year, over eight years. The base parcel tax levy would be $659 per parcel per year for single family homes, duplexes and multifamily units with up to 4 units.
