City of Alameda in the Clear to Pursue Google Broadband Offer

Sources tell Action Alameda News that there is no non-compete clause with Comcast over the sale of Alameda Power & Telecom’s cable division that would preclude the City from submitting an application to Google for their broadband offer.

And it’s a good thing too, because the City of Alameda has enough carry-on problems from the sale of the troubled telecom division to last the life of the Google project. Tonight, the Alameda City Council and the Public Utilities Board will hold a joint closed session meeting to discuss:

Significant Exposure to Litigation Pursuant to Subdivision (b) of Section 54956.9
Name of Cases: Vectren Communication Services v. City of Alameda, Acting By and Through Alameda Municipal Power

Bernard A. Osher, Trustee v. City of Alameda, et al

City of Alameda on Behalf of Itself and Alameda Municipal Power, et al v. Nuveen Municipal High Income Opportunity Fund, et al

And who said the City of Alameda isn’t liable for Alameda Municipal Power and telecom’s failings?
