Wind River and LSI Corporation to Co-market Solutions for Telecommunications Market

Wind River, of Alameda, and LSI Corporation, of Milpitas, announced today that they plan to collaborate on the marketing of integrated hardware and software solutions targeted at networking and telecommunications equipment manufacturers. The partnership is driven by an “explosion of wireless data traffic” resulting from widespread consumer adoption of smartphones like the Apple iPhone.

Measure E Fails

With only half of Alameda’s registered voters concerned enough by the supposed plight of the schools to even vote at all, less than two thirds of those voted “Yes,” only 35 percent of registered voters, defeating the initiative. Measure E would have given this island city some of the highest school taxes in the Bay Area, if not the nation. It would have cost homeowners $659 a year, and commercial property owners as much as $9,500 per year per parcel. It would have raised $14 million a year for eight years on top of the $80 million a year going to the schools from regular property taxes.

Alameda Unified School District Concedes Defeat on Measure E

In a press release issued late yesterday, the Alameda Unified School District conceded defeat on Measure E, with only 35% of registered voters voting in favor of the measure. Less than two-thirds of the 21,966 votes cast were in favor of the measure, sending it to defeat. However, the District plans no school closures for the 2010/11 school year.

Alameda Summertime Street Repair and Resurfacing

The City of Alameda has released their schedule for summertime street resurfacing and repair. The work will start in July and run through mid-September. Motorists should expect delays and disruptions, and residents should expect noise increases and high dust levels. Expect also temporary losses of street parking during construction.

Updated Measure E Results

As of 2:50 p.m. today, Measure E had 14,415 votes, or 65.62% of the votes cast, falling short of the required 2/3rds supermajority to win passage. This includes additional ballots from Alameda City Hall and the Registrar of Voters office not counted last night.
