Alameda Point Gateway Jet Removed From Pedestal for Restoration

Last Friday, the City of Alameda removed from its pedestal the A-7 Corsair jet that was located at the West Atlantic Avenue gate to Alameda Point. The aircraft will enter a restoration process led by Alameda historians and airplane enthusiasts, along with the A-4 Skyhawk that was blown off its pedestal at the Navy Way gate during a wind storm in February 2008.

The City says that the A-7 will be repainted in its current, original colors, and the A-4 will be returned to its 1957 colors when it flew in the same squadron as Gene Cernan, the last man to walk on the moon. The City is targeting the end of the year to have both aircraft returned to their pedestals.
