Last month, the California Resource Recovery Association recognized Jessica Robinson, competing as Miss Alameda in this year’s Miss California USA contest, and the Alameda Unified School District with the “Next Generation” recycler award for work inspiring the next generation of recyclers.
Kristi Ojigho, Maintenance, Operations and Facilities Coordinator, the AUSD custodial team, and Miss Alameda were in Sacramento at the statewide recycling conference to accept the award. Miss Alameda has made several appearances at Green Challenge Schools to promote recycling, waste diversion and waste reduction. Stephen Bantillo, Executive Director, California Resource Recovery Association and Heidi Sanborn, Executive Director, California Product Stewardship Council, were also on-hand.
Ms. Robinson also told Action Alameda News that the same day, she appeared in a play in Sacramento for the Northern California Recycling Association (NCRA) and the California Resource Recovery Association; the theme of the play was “zero waste.” Miss Alameda sang a song – a take-off on Etta James’ version of “I Just Wanna Make Love to You,” – with Steve Sherman, of the NCRA Players, called “I Just Wanna Compost With You.”
