AUSD Special Board Meeting Tonight to Consider Woodstock Child Development Center Extension

At 5:00 p.m. this evening, there will be an Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) Special Board Meeting at the Kofman Auditorium at 2200 Central Avenue, Alameda. On the agenda is a resolution to fund and rehire necessary staff to continue the toddler and school-aged before-school and after-school child care programs through the Woodstock Child Development Center.

City of Alameda Interim City Manager has been working to identify ways that the City of Alameda could help the school District through a transfer of $3 million of redevelopment property tax money to the District, and through a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) contribution or loan to the District to keep the child care programs operating until December.

The meeting begins at 5:00 p.m., tonight, Wednesday, October 6th, at the Kofman Auditorium. The agenda is reproduced below:

Child Care. Rejects the elimination of child care funding, as proposed
    in the Governor’s May Revision.

Preserves Integrity of Proposition 98. Rejects the Governor’s legally suspect proposal to manipulate the Proposition 98 guarantee and rather proposes a direct suspension of the guarantee for one year at a specific funding level. As the LAO has noted, suspension of the Proposition 98 guarantee reduces legal or Constitutional ambiguity over the maintenance factor created as part of last year’s budget agreement. Thus, the suspension keeps last year’s budget promises and enables funding for schools to grow as the economy rebounds.
