Dear Board Members:
I have been asked to write this letter on behalf of several parents and residents within the Alameda Unified School District and it should be read in conjunction with the letter regarding school closures that I previously sent you.
The proposal has many severe difficulties of which I will highlight only a few of the most egregious.

Dear Editor,
One of the reasons I started getting interested and involved in politics around Alameda was the incredibly acrimonious battle surrounding Measure E. There were reports of supporters physically and verbally threatening opponents, to the point that the New York Times took notice. As I said while campaigning for City Council, it is a sad state of affairs when the local schools have to come to the people, with hat in hand, to make up for the deficiencies of the State.

Documents obtained by Action Alameda News indicate that, effective Wednesday, December 1, 2010, Alameda County will terminate an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) policy that called for paramedics to take stroke victims in the city of Alameda to Alameda Hospital, even though the Hospital is not a certified stroke center. The change in policy has been confirmed by the Alameda County Health Services Agency.

Organized by the Economic Development Department, the event is apparently designed to boost the flagging fortunes of the city’s Webster Street business district.

Correction: Tomorrow’s night meeting is for the Board to give direction – the actual vote is to take place November 30th.
Tomorrow night, the Alameda Unified School District Board of Trustees will vote on a recommendation from the Superintendent to place a parcel tax on the ballot in a March 8, 2011 special election. The recommendation is for a tax based on 32 cents per square feet of building improvements on a parcel, with an $8,500 cap, which equates to a tax only on the first 26,560 square feet of building improvements on a parcel.
