Update, January 3, 2011 – City of Alameda employee Christina Baines confirmed accounts of Mayor Gilmore’s attempts to put her on paid administrative leave last week, writing to Action Alameda News today, “That may have been/is her intent [to fire me]; no one has said anything to me as of yet. The Mayor called me while I was on vacation in Southern Californian and told me I was on paid admin leave as of Wednesday at about 11:45am; about 25 hours later, I received a call from the Acting City Manager telling me to report to work today at 8am.”
Sources close to Alameda City Hall describe events there this week as a “Stalinist purge” intended to get rid of employees that had any involvement in the investigation of Lena Tam, and strike fear in the hearts of employees to warn them against speaking out – for fear of losing their job – against illegal or suspected illegal activity.

The Alameda Landing site, on the former Navy Fleet Industrial Supply Center (FISC) has been sold to private investment firm TPG Capital. Catellus had planned to build over 300 homes and several hundred thousand square feet of retail and office site at the location just across the estuary from Oakland’s Jack London Square.

Incoming Alameda County District 3 Supervisor Wilma Chan signed the Measure A “in-favor” ballot argument rebuttal statement, dating it December 22, 2010 and signing her title as “Alameda County Supervisor.” However, she won’t take her seat until January 3rd, and until then, is not officially an Alameda County Supervisor.

Federal court documents obtained by Action Alameda News show that in late October of this year, SunCal CEO Bruce Eileff, SunCal master entities SCC Acquisitions Inc. and SCC Acquisitions LLC, and others were the targets of a lawsuit by a bankruptcy trustee, who claimed that the defendants fraudulently disbursed $144 million lent to them.

Alameda resident and businessman Marshall Cromer signed the rebuttal argument in reply to ballot argument in favor of the Alameda Unified School District’s March parcel tax ballot measure, “Measure A.” But his name won’t appear in the ballot pamphlet due to a curious interpretation of the California Elections Code by the Alameda County Registrar of Voters.

An analysis of data provided in the 2010-11 Alameda County Tax Assessor annual report, conducted by Action Alameda News, shows that 70% of the parcels on the County’s 2010-11 tax roll have a Proposition 13 base year of 1991 or later. Those properties account for 89% of assessed real property value on the tax roll. Parcels for the city of Alameda are not broken out separately.
