Former Central Cinema Building Up For Sale

Action Alameda News snapped this Christmas Day photo, below, of 842 Central Avenue, the former site of the Central Cinema, and independent movie house. A “For Sale – Bank Owned” sign has been posted at the building, suggesting that it has been foreclosed on by lenders.

Over time, the building has housed a community center and a mortuary; the sign identifies the property as having 4,600 square feet of office/retail space. A listing on LoopNet, a commercial real estate listing website, has the building priced at $590,000.

When Alameda resident Mark Haskett operated the Central Cinema at the location, he leased, but did not own, the building. The Central Cinema closed in 2008.

It has been foreclosed and is owned by the bank. This doesn’t explain why everyone is using it as a city dump, and the City just goes blithely along as though the cleanliness of the streets no longer matters. No one seems to care at City Hall any more.
