Alameda Start-up Vook Raises $5.25 million in Venture Capital

Alameda-based Vook, a self-described leading digital publisher of mixed-media reading, announced yesterday that it closed a $5.25 million Series “A” round of venture financing. Investors include VantagePoint Venture Partners and Floodgate.

Vook says it will use the proceeds to invest in technology to support its growth plans and accelerate sales. In a statement, Brad Inman, CEO of Vook, said, “We are excited to bring new and existing investors into this round. They recognize that Vook is leading the way with a new vision for book publishing, creating value for authors, filmmakers and book publishers.”

A “vook” is a digital publishing form combining video, text, images and social sharing, specially created for tablets, smart phones and e-readers. The company says they have formed strategic relationships with many leading book publishers and agents, and has published “vooks” with bestselling authors such as Deepak Chopra, Seth Godin and Anne Rice.
