Google announced today that Kansas City, Kansas, was selected for their free high-speed broadband network project. The City of Alameda had applied to the program just over a year ago.

Tonight, the Alameda Unified School District Board of Trustees will consider a resolution to change the attendance zones for Ruby Bridges and Paden elementary schools, to alleviate overcrowding at Ruby Bridges school. Tommorow, Tuesday, March 29th, at 5:59 p.m., the Alameda City Council will hold a closed-session special city council meeting to discuss the vacant city manager position. We apologize for the error.] The Planning Board of the City of Alameda will hold a public hearing regarding the parcel at 1348 Weber Street at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 11th, 2011 at City Hall. Tomorrow and Saturday, at 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., respectively, the City of Alameda will hold special meetings pertaining to the selecting of a new full-time City Manager. Both meetings are open for public comment on the agenda items only, for a maximum of 3 minutes. The Alameda Rent Review Advisory Committee is accepting applications from tenants who would like to serve. The Committee mediates between landlords and tenants over complaints about rent increases. Habitat for Humanity’s East Bay ReStore, a not-for-profit retail store, will hold a warehouse liquidation sale of new and used building materials at its Alameda Point warehouse on April 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Tonight at the Public Utilities Board meeting, Alameda Municipal Power staff will ask for input from board members on a Request for Proposal (RFP) they want to issue to study emerging trends in electricity rates and electrical utility technologies. The staff report cites “Smart Meters” as a new technology that provides new pricing options for utilities. To date, only PG&E has deployed smart meters in Alameda. In a joint announcement today, Quest Diagnostics Incorporated of Madison, New Jersey, announced that it would acquire Alameda-based biotech firm Celera Corporation for approximately $344 million. |
