And people wonder how Hitler got elected. Fear. There will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth as people pass by South Shore and it’s stores and it’s $7,999 tax a year, on their way to Goodwill to buy school clothes because they are paying that high school tax.

All anger aside, I hope the kids actually get what we’re paying for. Is it cynical to say that somehow I doubt it?

  • Mom

Unfortunately our entire country is run by fear currently!

If this passes I expect everyone in the school district will get a raise… It’s funny how there was no stipulation in this parcel tax that X number of dollars would be spent on each student, and they made sure to put in a clause that if for any reason things don’t turn out like they had planned, the parcel tax sticks. Nice way of making cuts in programs and keeping salaries!

Public school is not free in any means. Not all students receive a great education, and with this parcel tax I won’t be able to afford a tutor to help my kids in areas that teachers can’t.

No updates? Checking the registrar of voters, looks like we’re screwed.

  • Supposedly there are 3,000 absentee and provisional ballots that were received on voting day that need to be counted…

What a fine day for parents in Oakaland/San Leandro and for AUSD’s payhikes, thanks to Measure A guaranteeing bailouts for the next 7 years.

  • Karen Zimmerman

Is there anything we can do? And why are people so damn stupid? You see it every day and everywhere.

Phooey. This is going to take a long time for me to get over, I can tell you that.

  • Betty

We fortunately only pay the tax until next year because turning 65, how ever I am just so pleased to be able to contribute to the superintendent’s 198,000 per year salary. It just makes me feel warm and good hearted.

I hope the money does go to the kids and the teachers. I can only hope.

Some lively discussion on SF Gate, both pro and con. As usual, the pro people are making no sense.

Did you really just talk about my hero, Adolf, in the context of Measure A? Wow, how cool that somebody else feels the same way! We gotta get Rush and Glenn and Karl in on this action, too. With their help, maybe we can get some tea party folks jetted in by the Koch brothers to picket our schools and harass our fatcat teachers and scream at our spoiled overprivileged school kids! That’ll show ’em!

Wow I’m really glad I found this site! Seig Heil! Don’t Tread on Me! Mission Accomplished!

  • Betty

trailertrash, do not call our teachers fatcat teachers. they work hard and are committed to Alameda’s children. Also not all of Alameda’s children are overprivileged. As for your other comments I’ll just ignore them.

your name must fit you perfect. Perhaps you should check out the AUSD’s administrators and then let us know what you think. After all the superintendent will be getting her raise in July..will she now be making over 200,000. I would cry for happiness too.

  • This AM, KRON-TV News announced Alameda now has “one of the most expensive parcel taxes in the STATE” of Calif! This electorate wouldn’t look so STUPID if we had residential property values like Atherton or Beverly Hills. But we don’t. We have some VERY large property owners which could have been brought on board to support AUSD & we let them off w/a cap. Does anyone think this statewide news about our taxes is going to encourage property purchases here?

    super $198,000 and a lousy job…

  • Betty

    David,
Could you please post information for seniors as to where to go to get the proper forms for the exemption from this parcel tax.
I will make sure everyone I know 65 and over will get the information.

  • Betty

    David, Thank you.
I assume they will put a current one for this Measure A on their web sit soon
Do you know if you have to complete this form every year? I think their kind of sneaky.
