Alameda Celebrates Earth Day This Saturday

Alameda will celebrate Earth Day with a festival this Saturday, April 16th, at Washington Park, at Central Avenue and Eighth Street, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The festival will feature exhibitors, live entertainment and an environmental film festival.

This year’s films include the feature titled “Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for Our Time.” According to a City of Alameda statement, the U.S. Forest Service has provided the movie to the City for screening at this year’s festival; the movie documents how Aldo Leopold, author of “A Sand Country Almanac,” shaped the modern environmental movement.

The Earth Day festival is sponsored by the City of Alameda Public Works and Recreation & Parks Departments, Alameda Municipal Power, Alameda County Industries and East Bay Regional Parks. For more information, visit www.PlanetAlameda.com
