League of Women Voters Charges $10 for Access to Elected Officials

Alameda Mayor Marie Gilmore donated her time and accessibility to the Alameda League of Women Voters tonight, at a fundraiser for that organization that promised access to “your elected and appointed officials” for $10 per head.

The fundraiser took place at the Community Center of Harbor Bay Isle at 3195 Mecartney Road on Bay Farm Island, in the Harbor Bay Landing Shopping Center. According to the League’s website, sales from tickets, raffles and auctions benefit the organization.

Although the League asserted that “all are welcome,” neither the League’s website nor a League representative at the door gave indication of a sliding-scale admission rate for those of low-income or without current employment and unable to afford the $10 ticket fee.
