AC Transit is set to raise fares in August. The agency will hear public comments on proposed fare structures and increases tomorrow at its downtown Oakland office.
Under the proposal, local adult youth rates would rise from the current $2.00 to $2.50 in the 2018-19 fiscal year; the rate would increase to $2.10 this August and step higher in 2013, 2016 and 2018.
Adult 31-day and monthly passes would rise form the current $80 with no change until 2013, but reaching $90 in 2018. Youth passes would rise from $15 to $20 this August, hitting $45 in 2018.
In a prepared statement, AC Transit Interim General Manager Mary King said that the increases are the result of “extensive outreach” among riders, students and others, that the agency has little choice “given the volatility of current funding sources.”
The public hearing begins at 4:00 p.m., tomorrow, April 27th, at AC Transit’s offices at 1600 Franklin Street, Oakland. AC Transit staff will prepare a recommendation, including public feedback, for a Board of Directors hearing on May 11th. Assuming the proposal as written is passed, new fares would go into effect on August 1st.
