Alameda Unified School District Board of Trustees Special Meeting Tonight at 5:31 p.m.

In addition to tonight’s regular meeting of the Alameda Unified School District Board of Trustees, there will be an Board of Trustees special meeting tonight at 5:31 p.m.

At 5:40 p.m. yesterday, Kathleen Brooks, Administrative Assistant to AUSD Superintendent Kirsten Vital, notified the press of a special AUSD Board of Trustees meeting tonight, at 5:31 p.m. Ms. Brooks did not provide a copy of the agenda with the e-mail, citing an “extremely slow and malfunctioning” internet connection, redirecting recipients to the District’s website.

The District’s website lists the agenda as a labor negotiation issue with the AUSD Superintendent, Kirsten Vital. The agency-designated representatives for AUSD are AUSD Board of Trustees President Ron Mooney, AUSD Board of Trustees Vice-President Margie Sherratt, and Sandra Woliver, an attorney with the firm of Dannis, Woliver and Kelley.

According to Ms. Woliver’s profile on her firm’s website, she “has represented school districts and county offices of education in a variety of important lawsuits involving teacher layoffs, wrongful termination, student issues and special education,” and, “she is an experienced labor negotiator and provides counsel to many school districts in Brown Act, elections, labor and personnel matters, including labor contract interpretation and administration, disability and discrimination, discipline and evaluation.”

The meeting will take place in the Superintendent’s Office at AUSD’s district offices at 2200 Central Avenue, Alameda, CA 94501. Members of the public are permitted to address the Board of Trustees for up to 10 minutes on items on the agenda.

If we have a “Webmaster” and a “General Counsel” why do we have such poor internet and email communications, or need to hire more attorneys?

The only thing consistent about AUSD is that it is extremely slow and malfunctioning just like its internet connection.

Our tax dollars not at work! They should cross-train as firefighters.

It seems to me that the hiring of attorneys and “experts” is yet another way to avoid assuming responsibility for anything. Shouldn’t an agenda be available sooner and be a little less vague?

    Just wondering.

Isn’t someone’s daughter the webmaster for AUSD?
Maybe they can do away with her postion.

I may feel inspired to write a column, “nepotism, why we need it”

Thanks for the link Becky. It sheds a lot of light on the scene.

Methinks some WebMaster could be doing a better job.

When will they be discussing school closures? Does Alameda really need two high schools, for example. Sorry, I’m getting into this conversation a little late.

Waste taxpayers money. The school district, Discrimination creates problems and not responsible is another problem. Embarrassing the nation. A shame!!!

I misspoke above, I should have typed: Thanks for the link regarding
    Becky.
Transparency and accountability seem to be in short supply.

In the future I will do my best to avoid sarcasm as in my previous post, although I’m still tempted to do so.

    Thank you Action Alameda.
