City Hosts Breezy BBQ for LBNL

Roughly 200 people showed up last night for a breezy City-sponsored BBQ at Alameda Point intended to show public support for the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) to select Alameda Point as the location for its second campus.

The City of Alameda claims that if LBNL chooses Alameda Point for its second campus location, it will serve as the catalyst for future Alameda Point development, bolster the city’s green-tech reputation and, “inspire our children and fuel their imaginations.”

The BBQ ran from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on the grass mall across from the Auctions by the Bay Theater and the former administration office for Naval Air Station Alameda, now Alameda City Hall West. At 7:00 p.m., LBNL representatives were to give a public presentation on the project in the theater itself.

A brisk wind came in off the Bay, fluttering tablecloths, as a five-piece band played and vendors and organizations set up tables to hand out information or marketing materials.
