The Alameda Police Department announced today that a man has been charged in two separate murders that date back to 1996. Eugene Albert Protsman, 56, is to be arraigned today in Alameda County Superior Court at the Wiley Manuel Courthouse in connection with the deaths.
According to Alameda police, on October 29, 1996, Manual Garcia, 59, was found murdered in his home in the 100 block of Crolls Garden Court. The cause-of-death was a combination of blunt force trauma and stab wounds. And on November 10, 1996, Diane Ely, 54, was found murdered in her home in the 2200 block of San Jose Avenue. Her cause-of-death was also a combination of blunt force trauma and stab wounds.
Late last year, Alameda police received information linking Mr. Protsman to both murders, and the department re-opened the investigations into both murders. Police say that there is no evidence that the two victims knew each other and that at the time of the murders, there was no indication the cases were related.
Police say they used DNA analysis to conclusively identify Protsman as the perpetrator.

Yeah, great solve APD. The dude is already locked up in jail for life.
Perhaps APD has been watching too much TV.
APD Chief, “Solve that ‘Cold Case.’ Otherwise honky be tripin, beatch.”
I just wonder why it took APD to take 15 years to solve a case based upon DNA.
Did the APD have their lab up their a$$.
What explains how long it took to get the results?
