Call for Interviews

Action Alameda news would like to interview local business owners about the potential for combined tax increases to raise sales tax in Alameda to 10% by year-end.

Meetings on Mandatory Commercial Recycling Ordinance

Earlier this year, Action Alameda News reported that the City of Alameda was considering implementing mandatory recycling for commercial and multi-family buildings. Next month, the City is scheduling meetings with stakeholders.

The City of Alameda Public Works Department is scheduling four community meetings through October to collect input from owners and stakeholders in commercial and multi-family buildings on a possible mandatory recycling ordinance.

The City says that such an ordiance is already the norm in San Francisco, San Diego and Napa and that such a program will ultimately reduce Alameda’s contribution to green house gas emissions.

The meetings with the business will be at Alameda City Hall at 2263 Santa Clara Avenue in City Council Chambers:

  • Wednesday, October 12, 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. – Business Community emphasis
  • Wednesday, October 12, 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. – Multi-Family emphasis
  • Wednesday, October 19, 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. – Business Community emphasis
  • Wednesday, October 19, 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. – Multi-Family emphasis

I support it. My selfish me-me-me neighbor doesn’t recycle because it’s “too much trouble.” I’d love to see her busted for sending recyclable/compostable waste to landfills.
