Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to speak with a mother from Oakland who plans to move to Alameda to get her two children into Alameda schools. (She currently sends them to a private school and daycare.) Although one friend has encouraged this mom to look at Edison school in particular, another, with a brown-skinned child, explained how she took her own child out of Edison due to racial epithets.

InSite Vision of Alameda reported third quarter financial results yesterday, for the period ended September 30th, 2011. Total revenues for the quarter were $6.6 million and net income was $1.5 million. InSite develops advanced ophthalmologic products.
This afternoon, Alameda Deputy City Manager Alexander Nguyen released a statement to the media regarding the wholesale cutting-down of trees on the boulevard along Park Street. He also announced a public meeting on the matter.

Alameda residents got a rude awakening this morning when a magnitude 3.6 earthquake, centered in Berkeley, struck at 5:37 a.m. The United States Geological Service pegged the quake at 6 miles deep and 6 miles north north-west of Oakland.
A controversial program that has seen the City of Alameda cut down trees in the boulevard along Park Street moved north yesterday. Action Alameda News captured these pictures of stumps from Park Street between Lincoln and Webb.

Yesterday, the City of Alameda and Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter (FAAS) and the Human Society of Alameda (HAS) announced that they have come to an agreement that will keep animal shelter services in Alameda. Shelter supporters had until November 1st to come up with a plan to keep the shelter from being outsourced to a neighboring city.
