The Alameda Unified School District Board of Trustees is expected to receive an update tonight on progress the district is making on developing a so-called “magnet schools” program in Alameda. With commercial crab boats idle through Thanksgiving, Bay area residents are finding they have to fish for themselves if they want Dungeness Crab. The season opened November 5th. The California Emergency Medical Services Authority has dismissed four complaints against Alameda paramedics pursuant to their involvement in the death of Raymond Zack at an Alameda beach earlier this year. The Alameda Police Department is asking the public for help in identifying a man accused of depositing stolen checks. Pamela Gordon, an author and president of Technology Forecasters Inc., of Alameda, a strategic supply chain and environmental consulting firm, has been awarded a sustainability award at the Productronica trade fair in Munich, Germany. Developer Ron Cowan’s proposal to exchange 12 acres of land on North Loop Road for a portion of the Chuck Corica Golf Complex, and a modified version of that proposal made public by the Alameda Youth Sports Coalition last week is fueling passions among those who care about the golf course, development in Alameda, and youth sports. Today, Pat Bail, founder of the Alameda Youth Sports Coalition, provided an update, with some detailed numbers, on the coalition’s proposal to insert itself into the proposed Mif Albright land swap, and take over development and maintenance of the proposed North Loop Road site, which would be used for sports fields. Late yesterday, Alameda Unified School District Superintendent’s Assistant Kerri Lonergan released a media statement announcing that the school district and the teachers’ union are officially at an impasse. The teachers’ union has called for all-teachers emergency meeting. Caving to pressure from merchants, Alameda City Manager John Russo announced today that city-sponsored construction is suspended for the month of December. The action follows an uproarious meeting on November 9th concerning the removal of trees along Alameda’s main shopping boulevard.
