Alameda Police to Bring Back Neighborhood Speed Watch

The Alameda Police Department is bringing back the neighborhood speed watch program.

The police department characterizes the program as a public education effort that lets citizens participate. The police pair a citizen volunteer with a Volunteer in Policing and issue them a radar gun.

When a speeder is identified, the team notes the date, time, location, speed and vehicle information. Later, Alameda PD checks the information and follows-up by mailing courtesy notices to the registered owners of the vehicles.

The intent of the program is to raise awareness of the risks of speeding to pedestrians, bicyclists and other vehicles.

Residents interested in participating should contact Traffic Sergeant Ron Simmons at 510-337-8367.
