Golf Complex Discussion Moved Out to March, 2012

A meeting planned for late next month during which options for the Chuck Corica Golf Complex were to be discussed has been moved to March 6th, 2012, the City of Alameda announced yesterday.

The reason for the push-out is that the City has issued a new Request for Proposals (RFP) for the operation and maintenance of the golf complex; the timeline for that exercise runs into March.

Alameda Mayor Marie Gilmore asked for new options on maintaining the golf course after public outcry over a proposal from developer Ron Cowan to swap part of the golf course land for undevelopable land along North Loop Road. The developer wants to build houses on what is now the golf course, and promised to build sports fields on the North Loop Road site.

The Alameda Youth Sports Coalition also got into the game, bringing forth their own proposal to manage any fields built along North Loop Road subsequent to the land exchange.

This agenda item had been scheduled for tonight’s special City Council meeting.
