East End Burglar Busted

Alameda police have charged a man in connection with a spree of burglaries of Alameda east end homes in November and December of last year.

John Lyman Gomes, 50, of Oakland was the subject of an ongoing investigation after private security officers with Harbor Bay Security reported on December 19th, 2011, a suspicious person in a Bay Farm Island area where previous burglaries had been reported. Gomes was detained and arrested for possession of burglary tools, a misdemeanor.

Subsequently, Alameda police linked Gomes to the prior burglaries. Police did not say how they made the connection.

Yesterday, Alameda police served arrest and search warrants at Gomes’ home in Oakland, where they found property stolen in at least five Alameda burglaries. Alameda PD expects to link Gomes to additional burglaries as the investigation continues.

Gomes was booked at the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin on multiple counts of possession of stolen property, possession of narcotics, and burglary.
