Alameda City Hall Busy With Parks Initiative, Living Wage Ordinance Idea

Alameda City Hall was busy tonight with two distinct groups assembling to voice support for councilmember referral issues.

“Protect our Parks” supporters gathered for a rally at Alameda City Hall to support a councilmember referral that would tighten restrictions on the sale or exchange of city park land.

The movement behind the initiative has been prompted by a controversial land swap proposal involving the Mif Albright golf course.

Also at Alameda City Hall tonight were members of the International Laborers Union of North America, to voice support for the idea of a living wage ordinance in Alameda, another councilmember referral.

Re:”fixing” the Charter to close the parkland swap loophole: A Land Use Attorney got up to speak, putting his reputation on camera, stating CEQA did not apply in this circumstance & our new City Attorney was Wrong. Yet she SAID NOTHING TO HIM. She only defended her advice, based on 1 case in 2001, Sierra Madre[a tiny landlocked SoCal town unlike Alameda], to the non-attorney speakers who followed him. That she lacks the courage/knowledge to defend her position vs another attorney does not fill me with confidence.
And shouldn’t that 2001 case also have applied to the 2009[?] fixes of the Charter also undertaken by the Council, w/o considering CEQA?
