511 Trip Planner Released as an iPhone App

A free 511 Transit App for the iPhone is now available on the iPhone App Store. An Apple iTunes account is required to download the application.

A version for Android phones is also available on Google Play.

According to a statement from the Metropolitan Transit Commission, “he app provides door-to-door transit trip planning and scheduled departure times for transit routes near users’ locations or from locations they specify. It includes information for 720 routes and more than 23,700 transit stops throughout the region. An interactive, dynamic map shows routes and stops along the way, as well as one’s current position while on the move. Walking directions to and from stops and fares (including transfers) are also displayed.”

The application uses the GPS capabilities of the smartphone it runs on to plot the users location on a map in real time. It includes data from BART, AC Transit, San Francisco Muni and several other Bay area transit agencies.
