Alameda Police Shoot, Kill Pitbull

Alameda Police said tonight that an officer shot and killed a pitbull dog on the 3200 block of Fiji Lane after responding to a report of a disturbance.

The Alameda Police Department said that at about 5:45 p.m. on Sunday evening, police responded to a call from an adult male reporting that his adult male neighbor had brandished a knife during an argument. Police responded and detained the suspect near his garage, which was open.

An adult female then came out of the house, followed by a one-and-a-half year old pitbull, which police say charged at the officer. The woman grabbed the dog but was not able to control the animal, which broke free and charged at the officer.

Police say the officer was still holding on to the male suspect when, fearing he was going to be bitten or mauled, he shot and killed the dog.
