Roughly six months after mature trees were removed from Park Street, the major business district in Alameda, to much uproar, the trees are now returning.
There was a huge outcry from Alameda residents last fall when mature trees up and down Park Street were ripped out, leaving the street bare just before the holiday shopping season.
City of Alameda officials said that the replacement of the trees was planned for sometime as part of a streetscaping exercise, and the removal of the trees was only the next phase of a project approved some time before.
Now, the trees are coming back to Park Street.
