Raymond Zack Family Sues City of Alameda and County of Alameda

Today, relatives of Raymond Zack, an Alameda man that drowned at Crown Beach last Memorial Day, filed a lawsuit against the City of Alameda and the County of Alameda over his death, claiming unspecified damages.

The case is RG12632015 in Alameda County Superior Court.

According to the suit, first responders on the scene ordered civilians to clear the beach, to not enter the water to rescue Mr. Zack, and even tried to stop the good samaritan who ultimately entered the water to bring Mr. Zack to the shore, after he had collapsed into the water, apparently from hypothermia.

Alameda County is implicated in the suit, because the Alameda County Regional Emergency Communications Center (ACRECC) handles dispatch for the Alameda Fire Department, and handled dispatch on the day that Zack died.

Zack’s family is claiming general damages, court fees, and medical and incidental costs, loss of future earnings Zack might have earned, and interest.

The Cartright Law Firm of San Francisco is representing the Estate of Raymond Zack, and his family members Robert Zack and Bernice Jolliff.
