Alameda County Board of Supervisors Gives Final Approval to November Transportation Sales Tax Hike Measure

A new tax measure would double the Alameda County “Measure B” half-cent sales tax for transportation to one full cent, and extend the new, higher, tax rate through 2022 into perpetuity.

The estimated $7.8 billion raised will support the Alameda County Transportation Commission (CTC) Transportation Expenditure Plan.

Alameda City Council approved the measure for the ballot late last month, with some reservations.

The CTC says it developed the transportation plan because, “All major projects approved by voters in the current Measure B are either completed or fully funded – 10 years ahead of schedule. To proactively prepare for our future transportation needs, Alameda County needs a new plan and source of funds for capital projects, which take several years to plan, design, fully fund, and build.”

The measure will go on the November 6, 2012 ballot for Alameda County voters.
