Single Vehicle Injury Crash On Island Drive Puts Teen in Critical Condition

Alameda police say that they responded, just after 1:30 a.m. this morning, to a single vehicle crash that sent the 15 year-old driver of the car to Highland Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Six teenagers were in the car, including five 15 year-olds and one 13-year old. Apart from the driver, one passenger was sent to Highland Hospital, one was sent to Oakland Kaiser Hospital, and the other three were transported to Eden Hospital.

Police believe that the car belongs to the parents of one of the passengers and was borrowed without permission. No information was provided on whether or not the teens were wearing seat belts.

The Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating and looking into whether drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash.

Local television stations were reporting that Island Drive was closed in both directions for the morning commute.

1:30 am, 5 youngsters, different families?
Where were parents, supervising adults? One, two, or three I can imagine being out, but five?
    It puzzles me…
I am sorry for this to happen. Hope they will do well. Tragedy.
