Recycle Woman Lands Contra Costa County Contract

Jessica Jane Robinson, an Alameda actress and environmentalist also known as “Miss Alameda” from her participation in the 2010 and 2011 Miss California USA pageants has landed a contract with the Central Contra Costa Solid Waste Authority to expand her waste prevention outreach program to schools in Walnut Creek, Lafayette, Orinda, Moraga and Danville.

Ms. Robinson parlayed her visibility from representing Alameda in the pageants into an environmental leadership role with her Miss Alameda Says Compost program for local businesses, and subsequently created an alter ego, “Recycle Woman,” who was the center of a locally-produced short film of the same name.

Under the new contract, Recycle Woman will appear at Contra Costa County regional schools to emphasize waste prevention, recycling and composting in assemblies, green team meetings, and classrooms.

The contract is a bounce-back for Robinson, who suffered a minor blow early last Wednesday, when the convertible that Recycle Woman was to ride in for the Fourth of July Parade wouldn’t start.

She was preparing to walk the three-mile-long parade route when she saw her friend and long-time sponsor Shauna Rosenblum readying the Rock Wall Wine Company float.

“To my relief,” Robinson said, “Rock Wall welcomed us onto their float and Mr. Rosenblum fastened my sign on the back of their barrels for the crowd to see.”

Robinson also said that Recycle Woman’s costume and “upcycled” boots are going to get a make over in the coming months to keep up with her planned appearances.
