Crackdown On Impaired Driving

Alameda Police are scheduling DUI Saturation Patrols for this Friday, August 24th, and on Saturday, September 1st, as part of a statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.

Some 21 law enforcement agencies in Alameda County participate in the Avoid the 21 Task Force by deploying DUI Driver’s License Checkpoints and roving DUI patrols during a campaign that runs through Labor Day.

Sgt. Ron Simmons of the Alameda Police Department said that high-visibility enforcement campaigns such as these reduce alcohol-impaired driving fatalities by as much as 20 percent.

The campaign is funded with a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
