City Departments to Close for Employee Picnic

Next Thursday, some City of Alameda departments will be closed for all or part of the day for an employee picnic.

Billed as an annual “Employee Picnic and Health and Wellness Fair,” the event will take place on Thursday, September 13th. All library branches will close at 1:00 p.m. that day, and the human resources department will be closed all day.

The permit center will be closed from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. and public works administration will be closed from 12 noon to 3:00 p.m.

Deputy City Manager and Public Information Officer Alex Nguyen did not respond to an inquiry as to the location of the picnic.

The Employee Picnic and Health & Wellness Fair will be at Lincoln Park.

Thanks for the salary updates. Now we can figure out how many thousands of dollars this “feel good” event is costing the taxpayers. I suspect the meter maids will be out ticketing instead of at the picnic.

  • I asked the City of Alameda about costs for the picnic. This was the response:

Costs for the picnic are limited to food, beverages and related supplies, and will be covered by donations from the following employee associations:

    Alameda Police Officers Association
    Alameda Police Managers Association
International Association of Firefighters, Local 689
    Alameda Fire Management Association

Chief of Police Noonan is coordinating the donations from the associations.

There are no costs associated with the wellness and benefits portion of the event since all vendors are contributing their own time and materials.
