Alameda Citywide Emergency Notification Test Today

The City of Alameda will test its CodeRED emergency notification system today at 11:00 a.m. The system will call all phone numbers for residents who have opted-in to notification and play a message indicating that it’s a test.

CodeRED is a high-speed telephone communication system used for emergency notifications, capable of dialing 50,000 telephone numbers per hour. Once connected, it delivers a recorded message; the system makes three attempts to connect to each number.

The City hopes this test will enable it to determine how quickly it can get an emergency notice out to the community.

Residents that want to opt-in can sign-up via the City’s website here.

Those without Internet access can call 510-337-8535 Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and speak with Communications Supervisor Lisa McNiff, who will assist in entering information into the system.
