Alameda Firefighters Back Ashcraft, Chen and Cambra

Campaign filings made this week by the Alameda firefighters union show the union to be backing Marilyn Ashcraft, Stewart Chen and Jeff Cambra for Alameda City Council.

According to the filings, the union gave $500 each to the campaign committee for those city council candidates.

The union also reported raising $5,479.64 from its membership from July 1 through September 30th of this year, and $16,295.48 from members cumulatively for the year.

In 2010, the firefighters spent heavily through campaign contributions or direct expenditures to elect Mayor Marie Gilmore, Vice-Mayor Rob Bonta and Councilmember Lena Tam.

Heading into the last few weeks before the election, the union’s political action committee has a war chest of over $61,300.
