The City of Alameda has declared parking meter holidays on Park Street and Webster Street during the holiday season this year.(File photo.)
The City is asking, however, for shoppers to observe the posted time limits to free-up spaces for others to park.
Parking meters originated in the 1930s to mitigate parking space congestion; that innovation necessitated another – so-called “meter maids” to enforce limits.
The Saturday’s this holiday season declared as meter holidays are November 24th, December 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th.
