Planning Board to Review Vision Statement for Alameda Point

The City of Alameda Planning Department is recommending carving up Alameda Point into six sub-districts.

The City of Alameda Planning Department is recommending carving up Alameda Point into six sub-districts.

On April 8th, the City of Alameda Planning Board will review a plan from city staff on dividing Alameda Point up into six sub-districts. The board will also be asked to endorse a vision statement for Alameda Point.

The Planning Department is preparing a draft zoning ordinance that would support the six sub-districts at Alameda Point. Under the plan, significant portions of Alameda Point would be set aside for employment/job creation and open space.

The allocation represents a shift away from previous plans that sought to build thousands of new housing units at the former naval air station.

The 13-page vision statement document indicates that Alameda Point represents a rare opportunity “To create a series of compact, vibrant, transit-oriented neighborhoods and districts that attract residents and
businesses that, over time, will be integrated into the City.”

The planning meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 8th, in City Council chambers.
