Increases in parking rates, and parking citations are part of the City of Alameda’s plan to balance its budget. Parking rates will double on Webster Street, and increase 33% on Park Street.

The full details on the increases will come back before City Council in May. These preliminary numbers come from a city council budget session presentation made public this week, and to be presented to council on April 18th. That entire presentation is included below.

City officials are trying to resolve a string of annual budget deficits running out to the 2017 to 2018 fiscal year.

Absent changes, the city is facing deficits of $2.7 million and $4.4 million for the next two fiscal years. The fiscal year begins July 1st.

Under City Manager John Russo, Alameda instituted a two-year budgeting cycle, hence a proposal that tackles the deficits through June 30th, 2015.

Why is it that the West End ( Webster Street) always gets the shaft from the city? Double the parking fines for Webster Street VS. 33% for Park Street? Here’s a novel idea, how about sticking it to the East End for a change? It’s time for the West End to get a brake!
