Sponsored primarily by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, the event is intended to get people out of their cars during commute hours.
Energizer stations will be set up across the East Bay, including in Alameda to provide bicycle commuters with free beverages, snacks and a morale boost.
To date, there are 993 teams representing over 2,400 contestants registered in the Team/Company Bike Challenge. Teams of two to five riders earn points through the month of May by cycling to work. Prizes will be awarded in various categories for the point leaders.
